Best Brunch and Breakfast in Sarasota
By Carson B. · Updated November 6, 2026
For pastry, go to L'Ôpera Bakery Bistro or Lovely Square in Gulf Gate. For a Siesta Key morning, Sun Garden Cafe. For a Gulf Gate institution, Original Word of Mouth. For a proper weekend brunch downtown, Comida or SaraSocial.
The French bakeries
Sarasota has an unusually good run of them. Chef David Cherki opened L'Ôpera in Gulf Gate in 2019, and he's there before dawn on the croissants and kouign-amann. Lovely Square on Gateway Avenue has croissants we've called maybe the best in town. C'est La Vie and Mademoiselle Paris hold down Main Street, and Comptoir is the all-day counter café across from Ringling College.

Classic breakfast
Original Word of Mouth has been baking its own goods in Gulf Gate since 1996. The Breakfast Company and The Breakfast House are the downtown standbys. Honey Tree Cafe is the family pick up north, and The Toasted Yolk and The Original Egg handle the south side.

On the islands
Sun Garden Cafe is the garden-patio breakfast in Siesta Key Village. Toasted Mango handles the south end of the key. Café on St. Armands does Mediterranean plates and housemade pastries, and Harry's Continental Kitchens on Longboat Key has a bakery and garden tables.

Weekend brunch with a drink
Comida does a Latin American weekend brunch downtown, and SaraSocial brings Southern coastal plates to Main Street. Wink Wink, Arts & Central, and Post Kitchen & Bar near UTC are also on the brunch list. Brunch hours shift, so check before you go.
